What West Sussex Musicians Find at Valhalla
Valhalla Media was built in 2022 by Chris Hardy; a musician who'd spent years frustrated by rehearsal studios that underdelivered; and his wife Kate, who runs the day-to-day operation. The brief was simple: build the studio they'd always wanted to use, and make it work for musicians at every level, from first-time bands to working professionals.
The result is a four-room facility with three dedicated rehearsal studios and one engineering and production suite, each named after figures from Norse mythology; the same tradition that gives the studio its name. These Viking studios West Sussex musicians have been waiting for deliver quality at every turn.
Thor: Rehearsal Studio
Thor is one of three fully equipped rehearsal rooms at Valhalla, and it's built for bands who want to get straight to work. Two Laney Ironheart guitar amp and cab setups, a TC Electronic bass head and cabinet, a full Mapex drum kit, three Shure SM58 microphones on K&M boom stands, Yamaha DBR10 700w powered monitors and a Behringer X32 digital console. Everything a full band needs, already in the room, already working.
For West Sussex bands used to dragging gear across the county to a rehearsal space that turns out to have a broken snare and a PA that hums; Thor is a different experience entirely. It's the kind of band practice space that makes you wonder why you ever settled for less.
Loki: Rehearsal Studio
Loki is the second of the three rehearsal rooms, identically equipped to Thor but with its own acoustic character. Same Ironheart amps, same TC Electronic bass rig, same Shure microphones and DBR10 monitors. Different feel in the room, which matters more than people expect; sometimes a change of space shifts how you hear what you're playing. It's one of the best rehearsal rooms West Sussex has to offer.
Odin: Rehearsal Studio
Odin completes the set. Three rooms, all maintained to the same standard, all equipped identically. Whether you book Thor, Loki or Odin depends entirely on availability; you won't find yourself in the inferior room because all three are built to the same spec. Among the Viking studios West Sussex has available, our band practice space starts at £60 for three hours, with extra hours at £20.
All three rooms connect directly to Bragi via the Behringer X32, meaning you can record from any rehearsal room without stopping the session.
Bragi: Recording Studio, Production Suite & Podcast Space
Bragi is Valhalla's engineering suite and the room that makes the facility something more than a rehearsal space. It houses a Studio Mac running both Logic Pro and Pro Tools, a Behringer X32 console linked to all three rehearsal rooms, and Pioneer SX2 DJ decks with Serato software.
For West Sussex musicians looking for a professional recording studio West Sussex without travelling to Brighton or London, Bragi is the answer.
Bragi is available at £20 per hour as a self-contained hire, or alongside any of the rehearsal rooms. Bring your own engineer, or book one of ours.
Engineering Talent That West Sussex Artists Don't Have to Travel to London For
One of the genuine strengths of Valhalla is the quality of the engineers based here. Charlie Crowhurst has attended mixing masterclasses at Abbey Road Studios and recorded sessions in Jamaica; he brings an international perspective to productions that rarely comes with a local studio price tag. Oli Courtnage holds a First-Class degree in Music Technology and spent two years at Visconti Studio in London, working in one of the most respected independent studio environments in the country.
Recording engineering rates start from £40 per hour or £275 for a full seven-hour day. Producing from £20 per hour. A combined producing and engineering package from £55 per hour, or £375 for a day rate. Rates go directly to the engineer.
If you want to bring your own producer or engineer, that's equally fine; hire Bragi at £20 per hour and use it however your project needs.
Mixing & Mastering for West Sussex Artists
You don't need to record at Valhalla to use the mixing and mastering space. West Sussex artists who've tracked elsewhere; in a home studio, at a university facility, or on location; regularly bring finished sessions to Bragi to work with Charlie or Oli on the final mix and master.

The Space Around the Studios
Valhalla isn't just four rooms and a booking system. The communal area is open to clients between sessions at no extra charge; you're not paying studio time to sit and debrief after a take. The onsite coffee shop runs Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 16:00, with proper coffee, tea, hot drinks, cakes (gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options available), 10-inch pizzas and cold drinks. It's also open to the public, which means the space has a social life that most studios don't.
Valhalla is part of the Chatty Café Scheme; a national initiative built around inclusion and making spaces genuinely welcoming. Anyone can walk in. The atmosphere reflects that.
We also host events periodically; live sessions, community evenings and other nights; and the communal area can be privately hired for functions, listening parties or band events. If you have something in mind, send us a message and we'll see what we can put together.
