Liphook is 20 Minutes from Guildford. Your Next Session Shouldn't Cost London Prices.

There's a particular frustration that comes with being a musician in Surrey. The talent's here. The bands are here. The ambition is absolutely here. What's in short supply is a properly equipped recording and rehearsal studio that doesn't either drain your budget or send you crawling through South London traffic before you've even played a note.

Valhalla Media sits just over the Surrey border in Liphook, Hampshire; about 22 minutes from Guildford via the A3, and even closer if you're coming from Farnham, Aldershot or Haslemere. As a recording studio Surrey musicians trust and a top choice for rehearsal rooms Surrey, we're not a compromise option.

Surrey bands have been making the short trip down the A3 since we opened in 2022. Most of them say the same thing afterwards: they wish they'd found us sooner.

Why Surrey Musicians Choose Valhalla Over London

Let's be straightforward about what a London rehearsal room or recording session actually costs. You're looking at £90 to £150 for a three-hour rehearsal slot in most decent London studios. Add city parking: typically £15 to £30 a day; and the time spent sitting in traffic, and a routine band practice becomes a significant undertaking before you've touched an instrument.

At Valhalla, a three-hour rehearsal slot in one of our fully equipped rooms starts at £60. This is why we are the preferred band practice space for local acts. There's free parking at Passfield Mill. The A3 from Guildford is straightforward; no congestion charge, no city centre navigation, no hunting for a loading bay to drag your gear through.

Recording with one of our engineers starts from £40 per hour. In London, you'd typically pay £80 to £150 for equivalent experience. Our resident engineers: Charlie Crowhurst, who has attended mixing masterclasses at Abbey Road Studios and recorded in Jamaica, and Oli Courtnage, who holds a First-Class degree in Music Technology and spent two years at Visconti Studio; bring genuine credentials to every session.

The maths speaks for itself. But beyond the cost, there's something else: Valhalla actually feels like somewhere worth spending your time.

Odin Studio

Viking Studios Surrey: Thor, Loki, Odin & Bragi

The four Viking studios Surrey musicians love carry Norse names: Thor, Loki, Odin and Bragi; and the identity runs deeper than a coat of paint. Valhalla was built by musicians who'd spent years using rehearsal studios that felt like an afterthought: damp rooms with dodgy PA cables and drum kits held together with gaffer tape. The intention from day one was to do the opposite.

Thor, Loki & Odin: Band Practice Rooms Surrey

Three dedicated rehearsal rooms, each set up identically so you get the same quality experience regardless of which room you book. If you are looking for a band practice room Surrey can rely on, these rooms deliver.

Every room comes with two Laney Ironheart guitar amp and cab bundles, a TC Electronic bass rig, a full drum kit, three Shure SM58 microphones on K&M boom stands, Yamaha DBR10 700w monitors, and a Behringer X32 digital mixing console. Air conditioning and proper ventilation mean sessions stay comfortable, even when the room is working hard.

For Surrey bands who've dealt with studios where the gear is technically present but practically unusable, this is the difference. Everything is maintained, everything works, and everything is there from the moment you arrive.

The band practice space rate is £60 for three hours, with additional hours at £20. If you need the room all day or want exclusive use of the whole site for a project or session, get in touch and we'll put something together.

Bragi: Recording, Production & Professional Studio Suite

Bragi is where the serious production work happens, and it's also the most versatile room in the building. It houses a Studio Mac running Logic Pro and Pro Tools, a Behringer X32 that connects directly to all three rehearsal rooms, and Pioneer SX2 DJ decks loaded with Serato.

The X32 link is particularly useful for Surrey bands who want to do more than just rehearse. You can run your set in Thor, Loki or Odin and route directly into Bragi for a live capture; no need to break down, move rooms and lose momentum. Rehearse and record in the same session, with a proper engineer in the room if you want one.

Bragi also works as a standalone professional recording studio Surrey solo artists and producers can book for projects, production work, or vocal sessions without committing to a full band room. At £20 per hour, it's accessible without being compromised.

Professional Recording Studios Surrey: The Engineering Team

A studio is only as good as the people in it, and this is where Valhalla holds its own against anything Surrey or London can offer at this price point.

Charlie Crowhurst has attended mixing masterclasses at Abbey Road Studios; one of the most respected recording environments in the world; and has mixing credits from sessions recorded in Jamaica. His ear for detail and breadth of genre experience make him genuinely versatile across different styles and formats.

Oli Courtnage graduated with a First-Class degree in Music Technology and spent two years working at Visconti Studio in London, the studio associated with David Bowie, T. Rex and a catalogue of landmark British records. That background translates directly into the quality of what he produces at Valhalla.

Both engineers are available to book directly, with rates paid to them via BACS or cash. Recording engineering starts from £40 per hour or £275 for a full seven-hour day. Producing from £20 per hour. Combined producing and engineering from £55 per hour, or £375 for a day rate. You can also hire Bragi independently at £20 per hour and bring your own engineer; the room and equipment are yours to use as you see fit.

Mixing & Mastering for Surrey Artists

You don't have to record at Valhalla to use our mixing and mastering services. Surrey artists who've tracked elsewhere; in a home studio, at university, on location, can bring stems or session files to Bragi and work with Charlie or Oli to finish the job properly.

The Studio Experience: More Than Four Walls and a Drum Kit

Valhalla isn't just a room you hire and leave. The communal area is free to use between sessions: you're not paying studio time to sit and have a conversation; and the onsite coffee shop is open Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 16:00, serving proper coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cakes (including gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options) and 10-inch pizzas.

We're part of the Chatty Café Scheme, which means anyone is welcome to walk in, have a drink and sit down; whether you've got a booking or not. That matters to us. Valhalla was built around the idea of community as much as craft, and the space reflects that.
